Rwanda Wildlife Conservation

Rwanda is known as one of the east and central African countries to conserve wildlife and this is seen by the three national parks that are found in Rwanda. Wildlife conservation do with protecting endangered species such as plants, animals and their habitats in there national settings. Among the goals of wildlife conservation are to ensure that nature will be available for future generations to enjoy and know the importance of wildlife and wilderness lands to human.

In Rwanda there are three designated conservation areas established as national parks.

Nyungwe National Park

The complex Nyungwe Forest national park is one of the ancient tropical rain forests. With an area of about 101,9000hactares, the park has the largest remaining tract of forest which contains 200 species of tree as well as orchids and begonias. Nyungwe forest national park protect over thirteen species of primate coupled with chimpanzees our closest relatives, Ruwenzori Colobus, arboreal monkeys, the Ruwenzori colobus move in groups of up to 400 individuals, the largest troop size of any primate in Africa, baboons, vervet monkeys to mention but a few.

Akagera National Park

The Akagera National Park also covers an area of about 108,500 hectare it has a savanna ecosystem in which acacia dominates the flora the park contains typical savanna animals such as giraffes, elephants, warthogs, various species of antelopes, birds to mention but a few.

Volcanoes National Park

The Volcanoes National Park Rwanda is the most popular protected area and the focus of most visits to Rwanda covers an area of approximately 16,000hactares. The park is a home to approximately one third of the worldwide mountain gorilla population Rwanda also has over four game reserves.

Gishwati Mukura National Park

To add on that there also forest reserves in Rwanda these include Gishwati Forest Reserve covers an approximate area (700 ha), Mukura Forest Reserve covers (1600 ha), Busaga Forest Reserve has over (150 ha) and Buhanga forest and gallery forest in the eastern province of about 160 hectares.
